1. Easy implementation

Messages are very simple and specific and easily perceived by each urban to remotest village around the globe. It doesn’t require any expert support, high tech material for the implementation. This is less costly and needed materials locally available and anyone could lead it. Our experiences shows babies in the family monitor, supervise the consumption and waste. 

1. Seed to stemming Pope’s Cultural Revolution

Mass people would have mindset and practice `how much less consuming I could be.’ It will facilitate health, wellbeing and economic opportunities reduce the vulnerability by climatic impact. It will create a climate leader in each house, community that will thrust in formulate climate compatible policy.

sasrai-Movement cannot be considered as a formal project. It’s aimed at to spread in each community/habitat around the globe. We believe having an initial thrust it will continue spontaneously by the community people for their survival and it will develop day by day.

Generally our volunteers save some money everyday that bears regular cost. Whenever any event designed we ask different individual to contribute and it’s given her/his own will and capacity.

Project is running voluntarily since 2004. Fund provided by the volunteer for the particular work or event. We collect fund based on the volunteers’ spot capacity at respective place.

Central theme of sasrai-Movement is `work locally serve globally, initiative local outcome global’

1. Individual tuned in plain, simple and easier life, as less as possible consumption
2. For any initiative first consideration would be tomorrow, the future generation, the children, who haven’t spoiled a bit of earth’s resources and not committed any sinful act. 
3. Everybody would believe in community potentials to solve their problem, adaptation by the available resources or that they own.
4. Everybody would be in trying to start the initiative in personal life, at home, work place
5. Each individual will stand for giving up the luxuries that hasten destruction of the earth and will reuse, recycle, repair as best as possible.
6. Student and youth will take lead in devising their way of serving the humanity and the planet and would establish the mindset `each has capacity and each has responsibility.’
7. Everyone will own instead of suggesting, directing and advising. Because environment doesn’t accept, tolerate dictation from powerful or powerless.

2.9 – Did you experience any institutional challenges in implementing this project (for instance, political or citizen opposition)? If so, please explain:

No till today we haven’t face any institutional challenges. Our project/theme highly appreciated by people from all walks of life specially the youth force is dedicated supporter. 

Our major challenge is to get the people in sasrai practicing in daily living and acting in favor of our movement. Another major challenge is our policy makers, officials, even environment activist yet to get realized that `the biggest threat for the planet earth is Rapid Running out of Resources – we must get us free from our consumption competition or Consumption Addiction.’

We are highly cared and inspired by the general mass and hopeful that they will realize their own role – dos and don’ts. And they will practice and contribute to uphold and spread the program around the globe. As for example in Australia, Malawi, Zambia, Nigeria, USA, Europe, India and Vietnam people are very much enthusiastic.

Our initiative aimed at get each person free from corporate prompted or advertisement administered lifestyle or bring out from the consumption competition or consumption addiction.

This less consumption of will bring less natural resource extraction and less machinery production. As for example if one wealthy family become aware by sasrai-Movement promotion they have mindset not to purchase festival dress that contributes in reduce underground water and different natural resource extraction, CO2 reductions, reduce green house gas emission. And totality contributes in save nature, reduce climate change and climate crisis propensity. 

Vulnerability reduction process as follows

• Energy efficiency improvement and energy use reduction

Less consumption and abuse shall contribute in less production that contributes to reduction in energy use. In daily living when people are attuned to avoid Air Condition, personal car, fast food, junk food, different luxury that might contribute significant energy use reduction per capita and totality would be the huge. And this behavioral change will develop day by day that will bring a cultural change among all – each one would have mind to be the resource responsible nature and earth friendly citizen. Each citizen will believe `each has capacity and each has responsibility.’

During our dialogue, discussion and presentation we appeal to try for renewable energy and prefer less energy consuming material and students/participants agreed. As there will be mass people voice save the mother planet earth there must come a time needed initiative, legal frame and policy for the improvement of energy efficiency in every step.

• Water use reduction and water quality improvement

2016 sasrai Day slogan was Save Forest – Save Water – Save Earth & Life ensure Habitable Earth for Each

sasrai tuned lifestyle will contribute much in water use and abuse reduction. We appeal to change behavior in face wash, bath, utensils wash etc. And it counted that change in face wash behavior could save minimum 25 liter per person. During our presentation students/participants made agreement raising their hand to be changed and caring to every drop.   

And native tree plantation will contribute in water shed development that might contribute in underground water reservation, reduce desertification, and totality will contribute in water quality improvement.

• Traffic reduction/increase in public transport, walking, cycling use

• Suspend travel by personal car once a day
• Please do walk but not in exchange of health
• Try one way walk

We disseminate different information regarding health benefit of cycling and walking. We appeal to the students and parents at least one way walk. In our city many students using bicycle that contribute in mitigate the traffic jam hazard, reduce fuel consumption, and reduce CO2 and green house gas emission. 

• Increase in renewable energy

There were not any direct interventions in regarding renewable energy. We were trying to get the each one resource caring that stirred up the individual and community to be environment friendly and they will find the way and collect information to be green in the daily living as best as possible.

Some of our volunteer is working on renewable energy different parts of Bangladesh and other country. Since one year we are promoting solar light. We appeal to use it during load shedding period instead of candle or IPS and trying to elongate the period of using solar light according to their convenient. When students are not in study in the room they could use it for during different household work that serve the environment as well save their money.    

• Solid waste management improvement

`sasrai-Movement’ voice act reduces the solid waste that inspired people to reduce it as best as possible in every step and manage it healthy and wealthy way. Less consuming and environment friendly city dweller will contribute to firstly reduce it as maximum as possible and rest would be managed green way in the family, community and city. It will stop throw away the waste wherever person like and that will ensure better management.

We motivate business community and user to be smart in packaging. Changes in mindset regarding different types of packaging could contribute lot to reduce the solid waste in the city. Use of polythene bag has become disastrous for our town and city. We are promoting avoid the polythene bag as well as be caring in packaging.

Since 2004 our appeal “The world is heading for irreversible and potential catastrophic climate change.” “Nature does not discriminate rich/super power or a poorer, distress equally.  Nature demand’s absolute care and planet demand voice from each corner to save a bit, waste not single particle of food any resource. We promote `Let’s we try to save one Taka/Dollar/Pound/Euro/Yen….from our daily use, consumption, expenditure, LUXURY combat the CLIMATE CHANGE, GLOBAL WARMING and the sequences. Individual’s saving collectively could contribute lot in combat the poverty, hunger, illiteracy as well as establish the rights for each and facilitate prosperity.

Scientists estimate that humans will consume twice as many resources as the planet can support by 2050. At the rate things are going, the Earth in the coming decades could cease to be a “safe operating space” for human beings.

Stephen Hawking opines `we are in danger of destroying ourselves by our greed and stupidity.’ Scientist revealed “Earth is halfway to being in hospitable to life as 4 planetary boundaries already have been crossed.” And central cause is imprudent consumption and production. The biggest threat to the Planet Earth is Rapid Running Out of the Resources.

Yes our project is partially accepted in city’s overall strategy regarding health, environment and climate crisis plans. May be this is the most frustrating character of human being that everyone ask other to be responsible but she/he is indifferent in changing practice. But our progress is very much positive because children and youth force are very much enthusiastic and keen to follow and monitor other to be following. In each family children acting as change agent, climate leader.

Chittagong city mayor fully agreed with our initiative and committed to uphold it. We are hopeful City Mayor will own the program and lead to execute in his own city and spread it for other city.

The core principle of `sasrai-Movement’ is participation of each and everyone. Since inception we had been trying to include people from all walks of life and we are blessed by all. Government officials in education sector specially teachers are very much cooperative to the sasrai-Movement. And we believe this cooperation will contribute to capture the central force of the nation children and youth.

Planet desperately demands drastic action to restraint in Rapid Running out of the Resource (RRR) that breed climate change, global warming etc. This biggest combat needs biggest number of combatant. Need purposeful and logical initiative that involves each, irrespective of sect, race, religion, caste, creed, economic, education and social status.

Initially it was really tough for us to organize the dialogue and discussion in any area and any class of people. Peoples’ engagement makes it easier for us. Presently wherever we go get opportunity share our idea and doings from we desire. Last 3 years we are presenting our program, thought in national level forum organize by the respective government departments. In Observance of sasrai Day International Day of Forest, World Health Day, Earth Day, Faith Climate Action Week and World Environment Day we are performing series presentation in our city and many other town. 

Our volunteers are low earning people and arrange the cost for said program is really tough for us. People engagement helped us lot. In organizing the different session local people bear the incidental cost. Different government departments do bear our travel cost, snacks. In sometimes government officials arrange small honorarium for the volunteer. 

Public meetings, social media, workshops:

We organize sharing session with people in all walks of life students, factory worker, local government leader, religious leader, civil society, teachers, media personnel and government officials.

We disseminate our performances in different social media like Academia.edu, CNN iReport, Disqus,  Facebook, Flickr, Google+,hi5, idealist.org, LinkedIn, Pinterest,  Qapacity, Twitter, Tumblr etc. 

We do present our theme showing different happening across the globe on different issues. Participants put their comment on our strategy, doings, don’ts, peoples’ feelings finally things to follow get their assistance in strengthening the promotion.

We do organize human chain in different public gathering. In different national festival function and big public gathering our volunteers organize human chain. We stand beside the busy road or junction point holding sasrai banner. Most interesting learning less people human chain draws more attention. Pedestrian put their keen attention to the messages in the banner, get inspired to save the resource and reduce the abuse of resources.

There are some stunning learning also in some social media our volunteers are blocked to put comment, may be they consider us as business promotion group. In some online development discussion our experience is same.

Other:

We are open enough and like to accumulate data, idea and information. We like to share our idea wherever the opportunity availed. Sometimes different social media take it as our personal business and block our message.

We get responses comments, suggestions, directions via email and social media. Some of those are highly inspiring and motivating sweet comment.

3.5.1 – How are you sharing (or intending to share) your project experience with other cities?

Yes we are sharing our theme through C40 Networks. But we are new in this network and not such a strong like other social media we are used to viz Academia.edu, CNN iReport, Disqus, Facebook, Flickr, Google+,hi5, idealist.org, LinkedIn, Pinterest,  Qapacity, Twitter, Tumblr, WAYN, wordpress.com

Please describe specifically how you are sharing your project experience and give examples of how other cities are learning from the sharing of the project experience. (1,000 characters max)

We share our opinion around the globe via email. We do propose on dos and don’ts on different issue. We regularly share our thought with UNEP, UN, UNFCCC, WRI, and many other national, international body, institution, individual working in the field of environment, climate change, global warming etc. Since April 2015 our sharing with different leading organization and government as follows.    

§  Planet Friendly World Environment Day Celebration ie community designed, arranged & managed

§  Have resolution to hang sasrai banner June 03 to 09 at each UN office gate around  the globe in honor of World Environment Day.  

§  Design `T’ shirt and BCC material that contain simple & specific message for the mass that turned into action by each.

• Mainstreaming sasrai-Movement theme in every development initiative around the globe.

§  UN, INGO and NGO officials’ orientation on sasrai-Movement

§  Appeal to initiate the mass mobilization process “sasrai-Movement – bold cultural revolution” 

3.5.2 – Are you planning to scale this project within your city?

If yes, please describe how you are planning to scale the project. Include information on the current size of the project and the potential level of scalability, e.g. current project covers 5% of buildings, potential scalability to 50% of buildings (1,000 characters max)

Since inception we tried to scale this project around the globe. Initially it was too tough to get the people realize `we must bridle on our consumption’ that hastening the destruction of earth. We tried to get people heard about the thought locally, nationally and internationally.  Since 2011 we have concentrated Chittagong, Dhaka and many other towns.

We do it voluntarily and most of our volunteers are low earners. Due to financial constraints we cannot proceed as per desire.

NGO intervention in the country established a culture that maximum people indifferent to contribute for social work.

To reach each community we appeal to UNEP have initiative to organize orientation on “sasrai-Movement” for UN, INGO and NGO officials’ as they are closely connected to mass people. Chittagong City Corporation Mayor agreed to extend his cooperation to uphold the program for the city and we hope to reach each educational institution and industry.

sasrai-Movement will be established in each city, town and community around the globe. This is only the path to face the biggest threat to the Planet Earth is Rapid Running Out of the Resources, uphold World Environment Day theme

Mounting acceptance of sasrai-Movement by the people in all walks of life shows that near future policy maker around the globe shall come forward uphold it. Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh urges to all uphold sasrai practice at home and office. Different level leaders, officials, teachers, media, NGO, INGO, individual national and international is working with us very closely. We are confident and dream to reach each community around the globe. Time is coming each person will be uttering `each has capacity and each has responsibility’ keep the earth habitable for next generation. 

In absence of sasrai-Movement we cannot achieve SDG, Peace, Justice, Dignity, Prosperity, Security, Rights and Cannot  `fight against the illegal trade in wildlife’
